Condition/Concern:
2003-05 Pontiac Vibe automatic transmission fluid may be dark or black in color.
Recommendation/Instructions:
T-IV (T-4) transmission fluid used in the Vibe automatic transmission starts out as red in color like DEXRON III but turns black as miles are accrued due to the carbon fiber material used in the clutches.
Transmission fluid should not be changed for discoloration as long as no abnormal fluid odor exists, or fluid and transmission was not over heated.
The fluid recommended for Vibe MU4, MU5 automatic transmission is AC Delco T-IV Automatic Transmission Fluid (GM Part No. 88900925) (in Canada use P/N 22689186, 946ml).
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
