Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
- Disable the driver and passenger SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
and
SIR Disabling and Enabling
in SIR.
- Remove the I/P upper trim panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement
in Instrument Panel,
Gages, and Console.
- Remove the steering column. Refer to
Steering Column Replacement
in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Remove the body hinge pillar trim panels. Refer to
Body Hinge Pillar Trim Panel Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Remove the sill plates. Refer to
Door Sill Plate Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Remove the front floor console. Refer to
Front Floor Console Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Remove glove compartment. Refer to
Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Remove the HVAC control assembly. Refer to
Heater and Air Conditioning Control Replacement
in HVAC Systems-Manual.
- Remove manual selector. Refer to
Manual Selector Replacement
in Automatic Transmission (MU4) or
Manual Selector Replacement
in Automatic Transmission (MU5).
- Disengage the hood release cable from hood release handle. Refer to
Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Remove the following components from the lower instrument panel:

- Remove the lower instrument panel by pulling rearward.
Installation Procedure
- Install the lower instrument panel assembly to the vehicle. Ensure that the
4 push retainers are fully engaged. Secure the assembly to the instrument
panel reinforcement with the 8 bolts.
- Route and install the I/P wiring harness clamps.
- Connect the hood release cable to the hood release handle. Refer to
Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Install the manual selector. Refer to
Manual Selector Replacement
in Automatic Transmission (MU4) or
Manual Selector Replacement
in Automatic Transmission (MU5).
- Install the HVAC control assembly. Refer to
Heater and Air Conditioning Control Replacement
in HVAC Systems-Manual.
- Install the glove compartment. Refer to
Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Install the front floor console assembly. Refer to
Front Floor Console Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Install the hinge pillar trim panels. Refer to
Body Hinge Pillar Trim Panel Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Install the front sill plates. Refer to
Door Sill Plate Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Install the steering column. Refer to
Steering Column Replacement
in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Install the I/P upper trim panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement
in Instrument Panel,
Gages, and Console.
- Enable the driver and passenger side SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling

SIR Disabling and Enabling
in SIR.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
