TRANS. FLUID SEEPS AROUND CLAMP

SUBJECT: TRANSMISSION FLUID SEEPS AROUND CLAMP AT TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER LINE (REPLACE CLAMPS)

MODELS: 1992-94 CHEVROLET LUMINA MINIVAN 1992-94 OLDSMOBILE SILHOUETTE 1992-94 PONTIAC TRANS SPORT WITH RPO M13 AND RPO L27

CONDITION:

A CUSTOMER MAY NOTICE SMALL AMOUNTS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID DROPLETS ON THE DRIVEWAY, OR DETECT A SEEPING AROUND THE TRANSAXLE OIL COOLER PIPE CLAMPS.

CAUSE:

THE SCREW TYPE CLAMP MAY NOT ADEQUATELY SEAL THE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER PIPE TO THE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER HOSE, CAUSING A SEEPAGE IN THIS AREA.

CORRECTION:

REPLACE BOTH EXISTING SCREW TYPE CLAMPS WITH CONSTANT TENSION CLAMPS, P/N 11516255. IF VEHICLE HAS THE HEAVY DUTY COOLING OPTION (V08), ALSO REPLACE BOTH CLAMPS TO AUXILIARY TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER.

KENT-MOORE TOOL J41487 IS AVAILABLE TO INSTALL CLAMPS. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THIS TOOL BE USED TO AVOID POSSIBLE DEFORMATION OF THE CLAMP. TO INSTALL CLAMPS, POSITION WITHIN 8MM (0.3 IN.) FROM END OF HOSE AND INSTALL WITH CLAMP PLIERS. CLAMP PLACEMENT IS CRITICAL (IMPROPER LOCATION CAN CAUSE LEAKS). SEE FIGURE 1.

CAUTION:

SAFETY GLASSES MUST BE WORN WHEN INSTALLING SPRING LOADED CLAMPS. A COMPRESSED SPRING COULD BE PROPELLED TOWARD THE FACE POSSIBLY CAUSING EYE INJURY.

NOTICE: BE CERTAIN THAT THE CLAMP IS PLACED IN PLIERS CORRECTLY. PLIERS SHOULD NOT COME IN CONTACT WITH FLAT SURFACE ON CLAMP TABS. PLIERS SHOULD CONTACT ONLY ENDS OF TABS. (SEE FIGURE 1). CLAMP SHOULD NOT BE COMPRESSED BEYOND THE STOP TAB. IMPROPER INSTALLATION CAN DISTORT CLAMP AND CAUSE LEAKS.

CHECK AND FILL TRANSMISSION FLUID AS NECESSARY. USE DEXRON(R) III AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID. IF DEXRON(R) III IS NOT AVAILABLE, YOU MAY USE DEXRON(R) IIE. START VEHICLE AND CHECK FOR FLUID LEAKS.
