HVAC Recirculation Control Inoperative Below 0C (32F) - keywords cold flash indicator intermittent light mode recirculate switch temperature

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Some customers may report that their recirculation mode is inoperative on cold start up in ambient temperatures below 0°C (32°F).

Currently, the HVAC software does not allow recirculation mode when the refrigerant pressure is low - this occurs on cold start up in ambient temperatures below 0°C (32°F). After a warm-up period of approximately 20 minutes, the refrigerant pressure returns to normal values and recirculation mode can be engaged.

Note that by design, the recirculation mode cannot be enabled when the HVAC system is in floor, defog or defrost mode. This is considered to be a normal operating characteristic of the system.

Do not replace the HVAC control head. A software fix and owner's manual update is being implemented that will address this concern. The software fix should be available in April 2007.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
