The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Fluid leak from the right front axle seal on all wheel drive equipped vehicles. Fluid will appear to be automatic transmission fluid even though the seal is located in the transfer case. The transfer case on this vehicle is filled with VERSATRAK Fluid (GM Part No. U.S. 12378514, in Canada 88901045) which does not look like automatic transmission fluid.

Recommendation/Instructions:

The design of this transfer case actually uses the automatic transmission fluid to lube the splines of the right axle shaft. Replacement of the right front axle seal and verifying the correct transmission fluid level should resolve this leak concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
