NEW SPRING DOWEL CASE COVER PINS SERVICE PROCEDURE

Models Affected: ALL PONTIAC 6000, SUNBIRD, GRAND AM AND LEMANS

The new Spring Dowel Case Cover Pins (refer to figure 1) for the Case Cover to Case are designed to prevent them from coming out of the case when the Case Cover is removed during service and/or reassembly of any THM 125/125C/HYDRA-MATIC 3T40.

DATE OF PRODUCTION CHANGE:

The new Spring Dowel Case Cover Pins went into production November 14, 1988 (Julian Date 319) .

SERVICE ACTION: (Refer to Figures 2-3) -------------- The new Pins can be used to service all past model THM 125/125C/HYDRA-MATIC 3T40 transaxles. Do not mix new style Spring Dowel Case Cover Pins with previous style Dowel Pins.

If removal of the old Pin is necessary use the following procedure:

1. Grasp the sides of Dowel Pin, twist and pull out of Case. (Figure 2)

2. Install the new pin by squeezing the Pin together and seating in the Case. (Figure 3)

Parts are expected to be available on 2/6/89. Until then normal part orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. All parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at the dealer's expense. All other order types will be cancelled as incorrectly ordered while the 400 control is in place.

Whenever service to any THM 125/125C/HYDRA-MATIC 3T40 is necessary, refer to the Unit Repair Section of your Service Manual.
