VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992 CHEVROLET CAVALIER SEDAN 1992 PONTIAC SUNBIRD
--------- Owners of some 1992 J sedan models built prior to the following VIN Breakpoints, may comment on an inoperative rear compartment lamp.
Pontiac - N7527777 Chevrolet - N7157215
----- A plastic tie-strap was used to retain the excess rear compartment lamp wire to within the rear compartment by securing the lamp wiring conduit to the rear compartment lid hinge support bracket. The installation of this tie-strap subjected the wire to excessive bending. This caused the orange wire inside the conduit to break and rendered the rear compartment lamp inoperative.
---------- Remove the tie-strap from the rear compartment lid hinge support bracket and repair the rear compartment lamp wire following the electrical repair procedures in Section 8A of the appropriate Service Manual. Once the repair is made, reroute the rear compartment lamp wiring and place the excess wire in the rear compartment lid above the hinge.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
