SERVICE GUILD: USAGE OF NONMETALLIC PAINT

Subject: USAGE ON NONMETALLIC PAINT ON UNDERHOOD/INTERIOR TRUNK AREA

Models Affected: 1990-1991 SUNBIRD MODELS

The purpose of this bulletin is to advise the usage of nonmetallic paint in production on interior body areas.

These areas are painted using color-matched primer without basecoat/ clearcoat. This produces a non-metallic color that closely coordinates to the topcoat color but has a lower gloss specification than the exterior topcoat.

There will not be an exact match to metallic colors of exterior basecoat/clearcoat. If repairs of the primed areas are required, use basecoat/clearcoat enamel to match the exterior color.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
