The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
On rare occasions, a P0451 DTC may set if the customer turns the ignition on while filling the fuel tank. If the customer does this during two consecutive ignition cycles, the SES light will illuminate.
Recommendation/Instructions:
If this concern is experienced, question the customer to determine if they are turning the ignition on while filling the fuel tank. If so, do not replace any parts trying to address the issue. Instead, advise the customer that the concern is a result of turning the key on while filling the fuel tank and they should avoid this practice to prevent the concern from occurring again in the future.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
