Component Name

Caution: Replace the passenger presence system as a complete assembly to prevent possible injury to the occupant. All the components in the service kit are assembled and calibrated as a unit. Using only some of the components in the service kit will cause the passenger presence system to operate improperly.

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Remove the front seat. Refer to Driver and Passenger Seat Replacement .
  2. Re-zero the inflatable restraint passenger presence system whenever the seat cushion or any component of the passenger presence system is removed. Refer to Control Module References .

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

Tighten
22 N·m (16 lb ft)

Retainer, Seat Cushion Cover (Qty: 4)

Tip
Use a J 38778 Door Trim Pad Clip Remover to aid in the removal of the seat cushion cover retainers.

Cover, Seat Cushion

Tip

  1. Tilt the seat back forward.
  2. Disconnect the seat cushion cover J-channel from the front and rear of the seat cushion frame.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector if working on the passenger seat.

Pad, Seat Cushion

Tip
The passenger presence system is part of the pad on the passenger seat cushion, and must be replaced as an assembly.

Seat Back Recliner Nut

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

Tighten
9 N·m (80 lb in)

Seat Cushion Cover Retainer (Qty: 4)

Tip

    • On the passenger seat, use a J 38778 Door Trim Pad Clip Remover to aid in the removal of the seat cushion cover retainers.
    • On the driver seat disconnect the j-channel retainers.

Seat Cushion Cover

Procedure

  1. Tilt the seat back forward.
  2. Disconnect the seat cushion cover J-channel from the seat cushion frame.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector if working on the passenger seat.

Seat Cushion Pad

Tip

    • The passenger presence system is part of the pad on the passenger seat cushion, and must be replaced as an assembly.
    • If working on the passenger seat, re-zero the inflatable restraint passenger presence system whenever the seat cushion or any component of the passenger presence system is removed. Refer to Control Module References .
