Caution: Replace the passenger presence system as a complete
assembly to prevent possible injury to the occupant. All the components in the service
kit are assembled and calibrated as a unit. Using only some of the components in the
service kit will cause the passenger presence system to operate improperly.
Preliminary Procedure
- Remove the front seat. Refer to
Driver and Passenger Seat Replacement
.
- Re-zero the inflatable restraint passenger presence system whenever the seat cushion or any component of the passenger presence system is removed. Refer to
Control Module References
.

| Retainer, Seat Cushion Cover (Qty: 4)
Tip Use a
J 38778
Door Trim Pad Clip Remover to aid in the removal of the seat cushion cover retainers. |

| Cover, Seat Cushion
Tip
- Tilt the seat back forward.
- Disconnect the seat cushion cover J-channel from the front and rear of the seat cushion frame.
- Disconnect the electrical connector if working on the passenger seat.

| Pad, Seat Cushion
Tip The passenger presence system is part of the pad on the passenger seat cushion, and must be replaced as an assembly. |

• | On the passenger seat, use a
J 38778
Door Trim Pad Clip Remover to aid in the removal of the seat cushion cover retainers. |
• | On the driver seat disconnect the j-channel retainers. |

| Seat Cushion Cover
Procedure
- Tilt the seat back forward.
- Disconnect the seat cushion cover J-channel from the seat cushion frame.
- Disconnect the electrical connector if working on the passenger seat.
