Subject: | Installation Instructions for Replacing a 1st Design Engine with a 2nd Design Engine |
Models: | 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt |
| 2006 Pontiac Pursuit (Canada Only) |
| with 2.4L Engine (VIN B or P - RPO LE5) |
| and Engine Oil Cooler (1st Design 2.4L Engine) |
This PI was superseded to update parts information. Please discard PIP3851.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Originally, the vehicles above were equipped with an engine oil cooler at the start of 2006 model year production. However, validation tests demonstrated that an oil cooler is not required, even during extreme operating conditions. As a result, vehicles
produced later in the model year are not equipped with an oil cooler. This eliminates a potential leak source, reduces the complexity, and reduces the cost of ownership.
Currently, the parts catalog lists a first design engine (12600671 - Oil Cooler) and a second design engine (12607337 - Without Oil Cooler). If a first design engine is stocked in SPO, the rest of this PI does not apply because a first design engine will
be received so it can be installed in the vehicle without modifying anything.
However, if a first design engine is not stocked in SPO, it will be necessary to replace the first design engine with a second design engine by following instructions below.
Recommendation/Instructions:
If it is necessary to replace a first design engine with a second design engine:
- Order the necessary installation kit from the list below:
• | 89060544 - 2006 Cobalt/Pursuit |
• | 89060546 - 2006 Solstice |
- The kit should come with installation instructions but just in case they are missing or misplaced, install the kit by following the necessary installations instructions:
2006 Cobalt/Pursuit
2006 HHR
2006 Solstice
2006 G6
2006 Ion
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
