HARD CLOSING GLOVE BOX DOOR (REMOVE PLASTIC MATERIAL)

SUBJECT: HARD CLOSING GLOVE BOX DOOR (REMOVE PLASTIC MATERIAL)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992 "T" MODELS

CONDITION:

--------- On some 1992 Pontiac LeMans, the glove box door may be very difficult to close. Closing the glove box door may require several attempts.

CAUSE:

----- The partition inside the glove box located toward the right hand side may be contacting the lower surface of the instrument panel. When the glove box door is closed, this interference may cause the door not to latch easily.

CORRECTION:

---------- Referring to the attached sketch, carefully remove 5 mm of plastic material from the top edge of the partition for a length of 40 mm at the point where the partition is attached to the inside surface of the front of the glove box door. It is important also to remove the material of the right angle flange which is attached to the inside surface of the glove box door. Material may be removed using a utility knife or an appropriate tool. Care must be taken to prevent cutting through to the front surface of the glove box door. After removing the material, it may be necessary to realign the glove box door to achieve a proper fit.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
