ENGINE STARTABILITY COLD/DAMP (NEW DISTRIBUTOR CAP RELEASED)

SUBJECT: ENGINE STARTABILITY/PERFORMANCE WHEN COLD OR DAMP (NEW DISTRIBUTOR CAP FOR SERVICE)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992 LE MANS 'T' CAR W/1.6L (VIN CODE 6)

Recently a new distributor cap, P/N 10457153 was released for service, on 1992 Pontiac Lemans 'T' cars, replacing P/N 10467543. The new cap has aluminum terminals instead of zinc plated iron terminals, for increased durability. The aluminum terminals will provide increased terminal corrosion protection and will result in better startability/performance in cold or damp weather conditions. Whenever a service diagnosis determines that the distributor cap should be replaced, P/N 10457153 should be used.

Replacement of the distributor cap should be performed according to the Pontiac LeMans Service Manual procedure.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
