SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE ____________________________
THIS SERVICE BULLETIN CANCELS AND REPLACES THE FIRST PARAGRAPH OF "ON-VEHICLE PRESSURE TESTING" FOUND ON PAGE 6B-7 IN THE ENGINE COOLING SECTION OF THE 1989 PONTIAC LE MANS SERVICE MANUAL.
PRESSURE TEST THE ALUMINUM-PLASTIC RADIATOR WITH A COMMON PUMP AND GAGE, SUCH AS A BT 7518 OR A J 24460-01 AND A J 36649. WITH THE SYSTEM AT A COOL TEMPERATURE, REMOVE THE RECOVERY TANK CAP, CONNECT THE GAGE AND APPLY NORMAL SYSTEM OPERATING PRESSURE. DO NOT EXCEED 20 PSI (138 KPA). WATCH THE GAGE NEEDLE FOR ANY INDICATION OF LEAKAGE, AND EXAMINE THE RADIATOR AND OTHER COOLING SYSTEM PARTS FOR SIGNS OF ESCAPING COOLANT.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
