Subject: | Battery Maintenance Information for Vehicles in Storage - Fuse Removal or Negative Battery Cable Disconnect |
Models: | 2006 Chevrolet Spark |
2006 Pontiac Matiz |
Built After VIN Breakpoint 6C119152 |
This bulletin is being updated with additional information for DRL-equipped vehicles. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-06-03-008 (Section 06 - Engine).
The purpose of this bulletin is to inform dealers of two different methods for preventive maintenance for batteries of vehicles in storage. Some vehicles may have the main fuse removed while others will have the negative battery cable disconnected.
The main fuse wiring harness system was improved, effective with VIN breakpoint 6C080661 (September 26, 2005), so that the stop lamps will work even after the main fuse is removed. On non-DRL equipped vehicles built after this VIN breakpoint, the main fuse (30 amp) has been removed from the engine compartment fuse box to prevent battery discharge during vehicle shipment. However, DRL-equipped vehicles were shipped with the main fuse still installed to prevent any electrical issues.
A further improvement to the wiring harness was made to prevent any issues with fuse removal on DRL-equipped vehicles, effective with VIN breakpoint 6C119152 (December 12, 2005). All vehicles shipped from December 26, 2005 forward have the main fuse removed from the engine compartment fuse box to prevent battery discharge during vehicle shipment.
GM Daewoo started removing the main fuse (30 Amp) from all Spark and Matiz (M200) vehicles shipped on December 26, 2005, regardless of any options, to prevent battery discharge during vehicle shipment.
The removed fuse information is as follows:
Fuse Number | Usage | Fuse Capacity |
---|---|---|
Ef4 | I/P Fuse Block (F1- F4) | 30A |
With the main fuse removed, the following functions will become inoperative: audio, interior lamps, DRL relay and cluster.
The removed fuse will be stored in the Ef3 location in the upper right corner. Refer to the illustration above.
When pre-delivery inspection is performed (or prior to customer test drives), the removed main fuse should be reinstalled in its original position (Ef4) in the engine compartment fuse box.
Caution: Do NOT remove the main fuse from vehicles shipped with this fuse installed in its original position. If the main fuse is removed, the stop lamps will not illuminate when the brakes are activated. This may cause longer response time for the vehicle behind before reacting to any emergency situation, which may lead to a vehicle crash.
