Diagnostic Instructions

    • Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
    • Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
    •  Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

Circuit/System Description

The driver information center (DIC) displays important vehicle information including compass and ambient air temperature. Power is provided to the DIC via the IP Fuse Block. The DIC communicates with the instrument panel cluster (IPC) via the serial data circuit. The DIC monitors the DIC switch signals to determine the switch inputs. The switch inputs to the DIC are low when a switch is activated. The DIC switch is a momentary contact switch that connects a series of resistors in a resistor ladder format. Each switch state - GAGES, TRIP ODOMETER, SET/RESET, INFO, FUEL, OPTIONS - corresponds to a certain resistance value.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, verify that all scan tool DIC Switch parameters toggle between Active and Inactive when pressed and released the switches.

If any DIC switch parameters does not toggle between Active and Inactive, replace the DIC.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the DIC.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1 ohm between the ground circuit terminal F and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified value, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates when connected between the battery positive voltage circuit terminal L and ground.
  5. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the battery positive voltage circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the DIC.

Repair Instructions
