Subject:Perimeter Lighting Operation

Models:2006 -2008 Pontiac Grand Prix

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Perimeter Lighting Operation.

Recommendation/Instructions:

The 2006-2008 Grand Prix non GXP models, have been built with two (2) different types of front Perimeter Lighting mechanization. Start of 2006 production (late June 05 into mid July 05) through approximately the first 3000 units, were built with Fog Lamps and will use the same Fog Lamp perimeter lighting in the lower front fascia like the 2005 models used.

Beginning with July 18th, 2005 the 2006 Grand Prix's through the current model were built with DRL & front Perimeter Lighting in the Low Beam Headlights. The first VIN built that way was 2G2WP552061104857 (but keep in mind all vehicle's are not always built sequentially by VIN). The Body Control Modules are unique for each type of system as is the wiring.

Note: You cannot interchange the components nor can you change the mechanization from one system to another. For example if you are servicing either type of 2006 Grand Prix for collision work, you must use the same replacement parts that were originally on the vehicle.

When programming a new BCM if the vehicle has fog lamps you must select the foglamps in the menu. If the vehicle does not have foglamps then the foglamp option must be "de-selected" for perimeter lighting to function correctly. From a Service Part availability standpoint some new BCM's could come with the fog lamp selection already "functioned on" so be sure to function it off ( "de-selected") if the vehicle does not have foglamps.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
