This bulletin has been revised to add a special procedure for exchanging ABS VI controllers (1991 Grand Am vehicles).
The ABS Controller used in 1989-91 Grand Prix and 1991 Grand Am models are to be serviced by exchange with one of the AC Delco Service Centers listed at the end of this bulletin. The Centers are authorized to pre-exchange by sending an exchange unit to the dealership in advance of receiving a problem unit for repair.
SPECIAL PROCEDURE FOR ABS VI CONTROLLERS (1991 GRAND AM VEHICLES)
In order to obtain the best possible new product information as quickly as possible, a special procedure is required to order an exchange ABS VI controller for 1991 Grand Am vehicles equipped with the new ABS VI system. A Technical Assistance case number will be required before any A/C Delco exchange center will accept an order for an ABS VI con- troller. This requirement for a T.A.S. case number does not apply to orders for exchange units for ABS III controllers used on 1989-91 Grand Prix vehicles.
LOCATING EXCHANGE PARTS
If your local AC Delco repair facility does not have a unit available for pre-exchange, call other shops listed in the bulletin. It is the dealership's responsibility to find a needed exchange unit by first calling the local shop, then the others on the attached list. All shops are authorized to ship to any Pontiac dealer.
AC DELCO EXCHANGE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the antilock brake controller unit requiring repair from the vehicle; complete all red shaded areas of the AC Delco Warranty Repair Claim (ACD-1078A). Send the unit and all five copies of the completed form to the authorized AC Delco Center ALL INFORMATION EXCEPT FOR THE DEALER'S SIGNATURE MUST BE PRINTED LEGIBLY OR TYPED.
2. The repaired unit will be returned to the dealership with the dealership copy of the AC Delco form, properly completed. In cases where the dealership has received a pre-exchange unit, the completed form will be mailed after return of the inoperative unit to the repair center.
3. A warranty claim is to be submitted for the R&R of the unit. An additional .2 hour administrative allowance will be paid if applied for when components are repaired under warranty by an AC Delco Service Center. This additional time should be entered in the "other labor hours" column of the warranty claim.
4. The dealer copy of the ACD-1078A and the freight receipt or shipping invoice are to be retained in accordance with requirements detailed in the current (Division) Service Policies and Procedures Manual.
TIMELY RETURN OF UNITS FOR REPAIR
Return of units for repair in cases of pre-exchange is critical to the success of the exchange programs. When dealerships don't immediately return cores, it results in local parts shortages.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
