HOOD OUTER PANEL 'UPDINGS' (REPLACE HOOD SUPPORTS)

Subject: HOOD OUTER PANELS, "UPDINGS" (REPLACE HOOD SUPPORT(S) AND SERVICE PROCEDURE)

Models Affected: 1991 GRAND PRIX "GTP"

Condition:

---------- Some 1991 Grand Prix GTP models may exhibit hood "updings" (dents that appear to be made from the underside of the hood) in the areas between the hood louvers and outer edge of the hood).

Cause:

------ Hood support flange length is too long and contacts the underside of the hood.

Correction:

----------- Replace the hood support(s), metal finish the damaged area and paint refinish entire hood.

Parts Required:

P/N 12505794, Service kit - hood supports.

Part is currently available from GMSPO.

Procedure:

---------- 1. Raise hood to full oper position.

2. Remote hood louvers on both sides of hood and rear hood molding.

3. Prop up hood in open position and disconnect hood assist rods.

4. Using a 3/16" drill bit and electric motor, remove the hood support attaching rivets and the hood support.

5. Carefully lower the hood, and metal- finish the damaged area(s) on the hood.

6. Paint refinish the entire hood as necessary.

7. Carefully raise the hood, prop up into position and install new hood supports from service kit, P/N 12505794.

Note: The attaching rivets are included with the kit.

8. Reinstall the hood louvers, rear hood molding, and connect the assist rods.

Labor Time 3.3 Hours Plus GS Material allowance

Note: Time includes: - Removal of hood louvers, rear molding and hood supports; - Metal finish and paint refinish entire hood; - Replacement of hood supports; - reinstallation of louvers and molding.
