CONDITION: SOME DRIVERS SIDE POWER WINDOW SWITCHES ARE MISTAKENLY BEING REPLACED BECAUSE OF CUSTOMER COMMENTS THAT THE POWER WINDOW SWITCH IS STICKING WHEN THE DRIVERS WINDOW IS ROLLED DOWN.
CAUSE: ALL 1989 W-CAR DRIVERS SIDE POWER WINDOW SWITCHES HAVE AN `EXPRESS DOWN' FEATURE THAT CAUSES THE WINDOW TO GO COMPLETELY DOWN AFTER A SINGLE, MOMENTARY TOUCH OF THE SWITCH BUTTON. THE 'EXPRESS DOWN' POSITION OF THE DRIVERS SWITCH IS REACHED BY PUSHING THE BUTTON BEYOND THE NORMAL DOWN POSITION. THE WINDOW MAY BE STOPPED AT ANY TIME BY MOMENTARILY PUSHING THE SWITCH TO THE UP POSITION.
SOLUTION: EXPLAIN TO THE CUSTOMER THE PROPER USE OF THE 'EXPRESS DOWN' FEATURE USING THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND/OR SERVICE MANUAL AS A GUIDE. <
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
