The 2-3 shift solenoid (SS) valve is a normally-open exhaust valve that, in conjunction with the 1-2 SS valve, allows 4 different shifting combinations. Refer to Shift Solenoid Valve State and Gear Ratio . The 2-3 SS valve is attached to the control valve body, within the transmission.
The solenoid receives ignition voltage through the fused power feed circuit. The powertrain control module (PCM) commands the solenoid ON or OFF by providing a ground path.
When the PCM detects a continuous open, short to ground, or short to voltage in the 2-3 SS valve circuit, then DTC P0758 sets. DTC P0758 is a type A DTC.
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:
DTC P0758 2-3 Shift Solenoid Control Circuit
The ignition is ON.
One of the following conditions occurs for 4.3 seconds:
• | The PCM commands the solenoid ON, and the voltage feedback remains high, B+. |
• | The PCM commands the solenoid OFF, and the voltage feedback remains low, 0 volts. |
• | The PCM illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). |
• | The PCM commands an immediate landing to 2nd gear. |
• | The PCM commands maximum line pressure. |
• | The PCM forces the torque converter clutch (TCC) OFF. |
• | The PCM inhibits TCC engagement. |
• | The PCM freezes transmission adaptive functions. |
• | The PCM records the operating conditions when the Conditions for Setting the DTC are met. The PCM stores this information as Freeze Frame and Failure Records. |
• | The PCM stores DTC P0758 in PCM history. |
• | The PCM turns OFF the MIL during the third consecutive trip in which the diagnostic test runs and passes. |
• | A scan tool can clear the MIL/DTC. |
• | The PCM clears the DTC from PCM history if the vehicle completes 40 warm-up cycles without an emission-related diagnostic fault occurring. |
• | The PCM cancels the DTC default actions when the ignition switch is OFF long enough in order to power down the PCM. |
Ensure the wiring harness is not stretched too tightly or other components are pressing on the connector body. Also, inspect for proper clearance to any other components and wiring. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections.
The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.
This step tests the electrical operation of the solenoid.
This step verifies the ability of the PCM to command the solenoid.
This step verifies that the circuit has the correct resistance.
