DELAYED OR NO 1-2 UPSHIFT AT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE

SUBJECT: DELAYED OR NO 1-2 UPSHIFT AT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE (WOT) (REPLACE GOVERNOR)

MODELS: 1995 BUICK SKYLARK 1995 OLDSMOBILE ACHIEVA 1995 PONTIAC GRAND AM WITH 2.3L ENGINE (VIN D - RPO LD2) AND HYDRA-MATIC 3T40 TRANSAXLE (RPO MD9)

TRANSAXLE MODELS: 5KDC

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY EXPERIENCE A DELAYED OR NO WOT 1-2 UPSHIFT. THIS MAY RESULT IN HIGH ENGINE RPM FUEL SHUT-OFF.

CAUSE: (FIGURE 1) THIS CONDITION MAY BE CAUSED BY A SLIGHT OSCILLATION OF THE GOVERNOR ASSEMBLY DURING (WOT) ACCELERATION.

CORRECTION:

TO REPAIR THIS CONDITION THE GOVERNOR MUST BE REPLACED.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1) VERIFY THE FOLLOWING TRANSAXLE IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION: --THE MODEL IS A 5KDC --THE JULIAN DATE IS PRIOR TO 161

2) ROAD TEST THE VEHICLE. VERIFY THAT THE VEHICLE HAS A DELAYED OR NO (WOT) 1-2 UPSHIFT AS LISTED UNDER CONDITION.

3) REPLACE THE ORIGINAL GOVERNOR ASSEMBLY WITH THE GOVERNOR ASSEMBLY IN THE SERVICE KIT (P/N 24205620).
