INSTRUMENT PANEL COVER RETENT. REPAIR COVER RETAINERS

SUBJECT: INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) COVER RETENTION (REPAIR I/P COVER RETAINERS)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992 "N" - PONTIAC GRAND AM

CONDITION:

---------- Some owners of 1992 Pontiac Grand Am vehicles may experience a condition where the retaining clips strip out of the cluster cover and remain in the Instrument Panel (I/P). Most locations may now be repaired, allowing the cover to be repaired instead of replaced. Refer to illustration.

CORRECTION: With I/P cover removed: ----------- 1. Remove the plastic boss so that it is flush with the cover.

2. Insert screw P/N 12337913 through the hole with the hex head inside the cover (#3 of attachment).

3. Insert clip P/N 11505100 (#4) between the legs of the retaining clip P/N 22580106 (#5).

4. Install dual clip combination over screw (#3) and tighten until fully driven, seated, not stripped.

Note: Only those locations shown may be serviced. If the two clip locations at the front of the cover become stripped, the cover must be replaced.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
