PLIABILITY OF DOOR GLASS GUIDE PIN CLIPS (PRE-SOAK PINS)

Subject: PLIABILITY OF FRONT AND REAR DOOR GLASS GUIDE PIN CLIPS (PRE-SOAK GUIDE PINS)

Models Affected: 1989-91 GRAND AM MODELS

Condition: Service technicians are having problems securing guide pin clips to front and rear door windows, resulting in damage to the clips in many cases.

Cause: The clips are shipped in bulk quantities to the plant and to GMSPO wet-packed. However, GMSPO has the clips re-packaged, and they are not wet-packed when stored at GMSPO or when shipped to the dealers.

Correction: Service technicians must pre-soak the door glass guide pins for eight hours in a container of water prior to installation.

OR

Suggest that dealers re-package the clip into a Zip-Loc (R) bag partly filled with water as soon as they are received in the parts department. Pre-soaking of the guide pin allows the guides to become more pliable thus enhancing the capability of fully securing the guide to the window.

IMPORTANT: When the guide is being installed, an audible "snapping" sound should be heard, which indicates that the guide is fully seated.

Parts Information: P/N 20712176 (Front Guide) P/N 22539533 (Rear Guide)

Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
