EXHAUST SYS. RATTLE (INSTALL WASHER-TIGHTEN BAND/MUFFLER)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1989 "N"

Customers may comment about a rattle type noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. This noise may be caused by the muffler strap or belly band, not being sufficiently tight around the muffler, which can result in a rattle between the muffler and belly band.

This condition can be corrected by installing washer, part number 14034623, as shown in Figure 1, and tightening to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.)

IMPORTANT: The belly band must be properly positioned between the locating dimples on the muffler.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
