SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE ENGINE WIRING

Models Affected: 1989 GRAND AM MODELS WITH 2.3L (VIN D AND A) ENGINES

This bulletin is being revised to correct the page numbers which were printed incorrectly on bulletin 89-6-36 dated 3/89. Bulletin 89-6-36 should be discarded.

The 1989 Grand Am model service manual engine wiring section (6D5) refers to an EGR valve on the 2.3L (Vin D and A) engines. However, NO EGR valve was used on the 1989 2.3L (Vin D and A) engines. Please make the following corrections to your 1989 service manual:

1. Delete #4 Connector, EGR valve and #5 EGR valve from the engine wiring view on the following pages:

Pontiac (Vin D and A) - Page 6D5-6

2. Delete #4 and #5 from the legend on the following pages:

Pontiac (Vin D and A) - Page 6D5-7 . IMPORTANT: Other sections such as 6E and 8A are NOT affected.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
