Some 1989 Grand Am models were built with 1990 HYDRA-MATIC 5TM40 transaxles.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

Before servicing any 1989 Grand Am with 2.3L engine, refer to the nameplate (broadcast code) for proper transmission identification. If vehicle has a OXYX transaxle code, then service this transaxle per the 1990 Service Manual procedures and order parts for a 1990 unit model OXYX.
