Some 1988 and 1989 Grand Am models with 2.3L (VIN D) engine may exhibit one or more of the following conditions for the first 15 to 60 seconds after a cold start.
- Stall when put in gear - Tip-in hesitation after immediately put in gear - Reduced cold driveability (miss, rough running or backfire)
If any of the above conditions cannot be repaired, following proper service manual diagnosis, it may be necessary to install a new MEM-CAL.

Parts are expected to be available on March 6, 1989. Until then normal part orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. All parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense. All other order types will be canceled as incorrectly ordered while the 400 control is in place.
