To ensure proper engagement of the lock tabs of the grille to the headlamp support, during service or replacement, the following procedure should be used. Please mark a reference to this change on Page 2C-4 of your 1989 Grand AM Service Manual.
Loosen energy absorber to bumper bar nuts to allow fascia to lower slightly.
Gently lift upper grille tabs.
R and R grille assembly
Lower grille tabs into slots.
Grille assembly.
Position fascia for even 8.0 mm (.315") spacing below grille and tighten energy absorber to bumper bar nuts (30 N.m/22 lbs. ft.)
