Did you perform the Lighting System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch to the HEAD position.
  3. Place the headlamp dimmer switch in the low beam position.

Are the low beam headlamps operating properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Is only one low beam headlamp inoperative?

Go to Step 6

With the ignition in the OFF position perform the following:

  1. Remove the headlamp switch.
  2. Install a fused jumper from the headlamp signal circuit to a known good ground.

Did the low beam headlamps illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Test for a high resistance, an open or a short to ground in the low beam signal circuit of the headlamp dimmer switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

  1. Disconnect the inoperative headlamp.
  2. Test for voltage at the headlamp supply voltage terminal. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is voltage present?

Go to Step 7

Repair open or high resistance in the low beam headlamp signal circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 11

Replace the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 11

Replace the low beam headlamp relay. Refer to Relay Replacement in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 11

Repair a high resistance or an open in the battery positive voltage circuit of the inoperative headlamp. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Has the repair been made?

Go to Step 11

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

System OK
