Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 205596  Size: SH

    Important: Position the lift pads in order to minimize interference with the rear suspension support and the braces.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle on an alignment rack. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the 2 mufflers. Refer to Muffler Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  4. Loosen the 6 bolts that retain the 2 rear suspension support braces to the body.
  5. Loosen the 2 bolts that retain the rear suspension support to the body.

  7. Use paint or a scribe in order to mark the outline (1) of the differential carrier assembly mount (2) on the body.
  8. Use a jack in order to support the mount.

  9. Object Number: 1365861  Size: SH
  10. Remove and discard the 4 bolts (2) that retain the mount (1) to the body.
  11. Important: Do not allow the propeller shaft or the wheel drive shafts to touch the exhaust system.

  12. Lower the jack with the mount and the rear suspension support in order to access the bolts that retain the stabilizer shaft insulator brackets to the rear suspension support.

  14. Remove the 2 nuts and the 2 bolts that retain the 2 stabilizer shaft links to the 2 control arms.
  15. Remove the 2 stabilizer shaft links from the 2 control arms.

  16. Object Number: 205666  Size: SH
  17. Remove the 2 bolts that retain the 2 stabilizer shaft insulator brackets to the rear suspension support.
  18. Use a flat-bladed tool as a lever in order to remove the 2 brackets from the rear suspension support.
  19. Remove the stabilizer shaft assembly from the vehicle.
  20. If necessary, remove the following components from the stabilizer shaft:
  21. • The 2 stabilizer shaft link nuts
    • The 2 stabilizer shaft link bolts
    • The 2 stabilizer shaft links
    • The 2 stabilizer shaft insulator brackets
    • The 2 stabilizer shaft insulators

Installation Procedure

    Important: Do not tighten the nuts or the bolts yet. The weight of the vehicle must be on the tire and wheel assemblies before tightening the nuts and the bolts.

  1. Ensure the following components are on the stabilizer shaft:
  2. • The 2 stabilizer shaft link bolts
    • The 2 stabilizer shaft link nuts
    • The 2 stabilizer shaft links
    • The 2 stabilizer shaft insulator brackets
    • The 2 stabilizer shaft insulators

  3. Position the stabilizer shaft on the rear suspension support.
  4. Install the 2 insulator brackets to the slots on the rear suspension support.
  5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Install the 2 bolts to the 2 stabilizer shaft insulator brackets.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  8. Install the 2 stabilizer shaft links to the 2 lower control arms.
  9. Important: Do not tighten the bolts or the nuts yet.

  10. Install the 2 stabilizer shaft link bolts and the 2 nuts to the 2 lower control arms.

  11. Object Number: 1365861  Size: SH
  12. Raise the jack with the differential carrier assembly mount (1) and the rear suspension support.
  13. Align the mount with the match marks.
  14. Important: Do not tighten the bolts yet.

  15. Install 4 NEW bolts (2) in order to retain the mount to the body.

  16. Object Number: 1366217  Size: SH
  17. Fit the CH-46839 to the underbody.
  18. The CH-46839 locates into 19 mm (0.74 in) diameter body datum holes (1) positioned forward of the rear suspension support.

  19. With the aid of an assistant, position the rear suspension support.
  20. The locating pins (2) of the CH-46839 engage the alignment holes in the rear suspension support.

  21. Tighten the 2 bolts that retain the rear suspension support to the body.
  22. Tighten

    1. Tighten the bolts to 125 N·m (92 lb ft).
    2. Use the J 45059 in order to tighten the bolts an additional 40 degrees.
  23. Tighten the 4 bolts that retain the differential mount to the body.
  24. Tighten

    1. Tighten the bolts to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).
    2. Use the J 45059 in order to tighten the bolts an additional 60 degrees.
  25. Tighten the 6 bolts that retain the 2 rear suspension support braces to the body.
  26. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 70 N·m (52 lb ft).

  27. Remove the CH-46839 from the vehicle.
  28. Remove the jack from the vehicle.
  29. Install the 2 mufflers. Refer to Muffler Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  30. Install the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  31. Lower the vehicle in order to place the weight of the vehicle on the tire and wheel assemblies.
  32. Bounce the rear of the vehicle several times in order to stabilize the suspension.
  33. Tighten the 4 nuts and the 4 bolts on the 2 stabilizer shaft links.
  34. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts and the bolts to 98 N·m (72 lb ft).

  35. Lower the vehicle from the alignment rack.
