Subject: | Retractable Roof Knocking/Rattles From The Center Roof Area Over Bumps |
Models: | 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 Convertible |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Engineering has identified a retractable roof knocking/rattle noise (mostly when cold). This noise may be caused by the panel to panel (P2P) locating pins bouncing in the front panel plastic receivers over bumps.
Early built cars (before July 2006) will likely have no sleeve or a thin sleeve on the panel to panel (P2P) pins. If this is the case, you will need to order two new panel to panel (P2P) sleeves to get the thicker style and add 2 add on grommets. Note: If the car already has the thicker style sleeves (build after July 2006) Only order the 2 new add on grommets (p/n below).
Install 1 add on grommet over each pin. Make sure to lubricate the grommet with dielectric grease and push it down the pin until it's fully seated at the bottom of the pin. Do this on both sides. After the thicker style sleeves and additional add on grommets are installed close the top SLOWLY to verify the alignment of the thicker sleeves into the receivers (it just needs to be close). After installing new sleeves (if necessary) fully cycle the top two times to ensure the newly installed grommets are fully seated.
Finally: Make sure the "Top move complete" message is displayed.
For Vehicles Built before July 2006:
Both Pins Built with No Sleeve, or Thin Sleeve (one piece sleeve) - Remove and install Thicker Sleeve (looks like 2 piece glued together) P/N #15879007 (order 2). Also, install add on grommet P/N #15815546 (order 2) over Thicker Sleeve
For Vehicles Built after July 2006:
Both Pins Built with Thick Sleeve (looks like 2 piece glued together) - Install add on grommet P/N #15815546 (order 2) over Thick Sleeve.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
