DTC Descriptors
DTC B1296 01: Movable Roof Header Unlatched Sensor Circuit short to battery
DTC B1296 06: Movable Roof Header Unlatched Sensor Circuit short to ground or open
DTC B1296 58: Movable Roof Header Unlatched Sensor Circuit incorrect reaction after event
DTC B1296 59: Movable Roof Header Unlatched Sensor Circuit circuit/component protection time out
Circuit/System Description
S1 is the Folding Top Header Latch Cylinder Sensor. The folding top control (FTC) module uses S1 to determine if the Folding Top Header Latch Cylinder is in the latched or unlatched position. S1 is a hall effect sensor that becomes active when the cylinder
is in the unlatched position.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The FTC module is active.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
A short to ground, short to voltage, or open is detected on the signal circuit of S1.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The top is disabled.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
The fault is no longer present and the top completes one cycle.
Diagnostic Aids
A weak battery may cause DTC B1296 58 or DTC B1296 59 to set.

Circuit/System Testing
- Disconnect S1.
- Probe the 12-volt reference circuit with a test lamp connected to ground. The test lamp should illuminate.
⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate, test for an open or short to ground. |
⇒ | If circuit OK, replace FTC module. |
- Connect a fuse jumper wire between the 12-volt reference circuit and the signal circuit.
- Use a scan tool to monitor Folding Top Header Latch Cyl. The scan tool should indicate Latched.
⇒ | If the scan tool does not indicate Latched, test for an open, short to ground, or short to voltage. |
⇒ | If circuit OK, replace FTC module. |
- If circuits test OK, replace S1.
