SUBJECT: CONVERTIBLE TOP CONCERNS (REPAIR PROCEDURES)

MODELS: 1994 CHEVROLET CAMARO 1994 PONTIAC FIREBIRD

THIS BULLETIN HIGHLIGHTS SOME CONDITIONS AND THEIR REPAIRS FOR THE "F" CAR CONVERTIBLES.

IMPORTANT: CHECK FOR WATER LEAKS AND WINDOW OPERATION AFTER MAKING ANY ADJUSTMENTS.

CONDITION:

1. TOP BINDS COMING UP FROM STOWED POSITION; OR 2. SIDE RAIL LINK ASSEMBLY HITS MAIN PIVOT BOLT. (CAN BE OBSERVED IN THE "B" PILLAR AREA WHERE THE TOP ASSEMBLY MOUNTS TO BODY.)

CORRECTION:

A. REPLACE SIDE RAIL LINK ASSEMBLIES (R+L), P/N'S 12522396 AND 12522397, PER CORPORATE BULLETIN 431039.

B. INSTALL BOLT/SCREW KIT, P/N 10278110. KIT INCLUDES NEW 10.0MM (0.4") LONGER SIDE RAIL DOWN STOPS, BOLTS, WASHERS AND BUSHINGS. REFERENCE 1994 SERVICE MANUAL, SECTION 10-9-18, FIGURE 19.

C. READJUST "DOWN STOP". REFERENCE SERVICE MANUAL, SECTION 10-9-36.

CONDITION:

3. PUMP STALLS WHEN LOWERING TOP (TOP WILL NOT START FOLDING WITHOUT ASSIST).

CORRECTION:

A. INSTALL BOLT/SCREW KIT, P/N 10278110. REFERENCE SERVICE MANUAL, SECTION 10-9-18, FIGURE 19.

B. IF THIS DOES NOT CORRECT CONDITION, REPLACE PUMP ASSEMBLY, P/N 10277203. REFERENCE SERVICE MANUAL, SECTION 10-9-26.

IMPORTANT: PUMP SHOULD SELF BLEED. CYCLE TOP SEVERAL TIMES, BLEEDING PROCEDURE MAY NOT BE REQUIRED.

CONDITION:

4. PINS WILL NOT ENTER WINDSHIELD HEADER RECEIVER (OFF LOCATION CROSS CAR OR FORE/AFT).

CORRECTION:

A. ADJUST UP STOPS. REFERENCE SERVICE MANUAL, "UPSTOP ADJUSTMENTS", SECTION 10-9-36.

PARTS INFORMATION:

PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM GMSPO ON APRIL 24, 1995.
