NEW ACRYLIC T-TOPS (NEW REPLACEMENT PART #'S)

Models Affected: 1989-91 FIREBIRD MODELS

This bulletin cancels and replaces bulletin 89-10-34 issued 10/89. Please discard bulletin 89-10-34.

Some 1991 Firebird models may be equipped with T-Top panels made of a new Acrylic plastic rather than glass. The following vehicles as well as all 1991 vehicles after Pontiac VIN 222954 will use the new Acrylic top:

GMSPO will continue to carry replacement glass panels, as well as replacements for the new Acrylic tops. The new Acrylic T-Top panel part numbers are as follows:

Right side: 12505684 Left side: 12505685

Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

Some 1989 models were built with Acrylic tops and some were built with glass tops. All of the 1990 models were built with glass tops. If replacement of a 1989 1990 or 1991 model T-Top panel is necessary, replace it with the same "type" panel as there are slight appearance differences between the glass and Acrylic panels.

IMPORTANT: THE NEW ACRYLIC TOPS SHOULD BE USED TO REPLACE ACRYLIC TOPS ON PREVIOUS MODEL YEAR FIREBIRDS WHEN NECESSARY.

While the new Acrylic panels have a special hard coating to resist scratching, they still require special care when removed for stowage or cleaning.

- Flush off dust and dirt with water and then dry.

- Clean panel with GM #1050427 or equivalent. Allow cleaner to remain on panel for about one minute, then wipe dry with a soft lint-free cloth.

- DO NOT USE ABRASIVE CLEANERS

Use applicable labor operations and times.
