It has been determined that water may be allowed to enter the engine compartment through one of the hood ornament stud holes and settle on top of the air cleaner cover which may then leak into the engine through the air cleaner retainer stud hole. This condition can be verified by the presence of water or water spot rings on the top of the air cleaner cover.
If this condition does exist, eight (8) new ornament retaining nuts (part number 11501855) should be used in place of existing nuts (see Figure).

Just as a precautionary measure, a visual inspection of the air cleaner cover is recommended each time a hood is raised.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
