SLIGHT POWER STEERING SHUDDER REPLACE RETURN HOSE/PIPE ASSY.

Subject: POWER STEERING SHUDDER 3.1L V-6 ENGINES (RETURN HOSE AND PIPE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT)

Models Affected: 1990-91 6000 MODELS (RPO LHO)

Condition:

---------- Some 1990-91 6000 models with 3.1L V-6 engines (RPO LHO) may exhibit a slight Power Steering shudder condition noted during static or low speed turning maneuvers. This condition may be perceived by the vehicle operator as a disturbance felt and/or heard through the body structure and steering wheel.

Cause:

------ A combination of Power Steering pump pressure pulses and engine firing frequency generating a disturbance through the body structure.

Correction:

----------- Replace the existing Power Steering return (outlet) hose and pipe assembly (steering gear to cooler pipe) with new assembly indicated below, which includes internal tuning cable.

Removal and installation procedures shown in applicable Service Manual, Section 3B (Power Steering Gear and Pump) and those provided in attached ILLUSTRATION must be followed to insure proper installation and operation.

Part Availability:

Parts are expected to be available on March 30, 1992. In case of limited inventory, parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense and all other order types will be placed on backorder until the 400 control is removed.
