WRONG LABELING OF ECM WRONG PROM/NO INJECTOR PULSE

This bulletin supersedes bulletin 83-I-3. Please remove and discard it from your filee. Recently, there have been two separate and different instances of ECM's being mislabeled.

The first condition concerns only service ECM's in WDDGM stock. The two service units involved are: 1225550, which is used on 5.0L dual EFI Firebirds; and, 1225570, used on 2.5L EFI Phoenix and 6000. The mislabeling could cause the single injector ECM (1225570) to be installed into a dual injector vehicle.

If this happens, no trouble codes will be set. The car will run poorly because only one injector will be operating. The correct identity of the ECM can be determined by checking the manufacturing code on the side of the ECM. Refer to Figure 1 (below) for an example of the manufacturing code. The correct information for each service number is:

The second instabeling concerns 1983 ECM 1226100 being labeled as 1982 1/2 ECM 1225610. This mislabeling has occurred only on production units and not service units. There will be no driveability conditions noticed. In the event of ECM replacement, use the manufacturing code for proper identification.
