1982-83 6000 AND PHOENIX WITH CRUISE CONTROL
There is a possibility of timing gear noise when the 2.5L engine is used in conjunction with cruise control on the 1982-83 6000 and Phoenix vehicles.
This noise is caused by the load applied to the camshaft by the vacuum pump.
To correct the condition remove the vacuum pump and install cover, Part Number 10022599, and gasket, Part Number 9776705, using the existing bolts and washers. A vacuum canister, Part Number 14080255, must be installed using nuts, Part Number 11503747. The vacuum canister is installed below the vapor canister as shown in Figure 2. Six feet of 1/4" vacuum hose, one foot of 1/8" vacuum hose and 1/4"-1/8" reducer are required to connect the canister. The canister should be connected as shown in Figure 1. Verify operation of cruise control unit.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
