A NEW PASSENGER'S AND DRIVER'S MANUAL SIX-WAY SEAT ADJUSTER WAS INTRODUCED INTO THE 1983 PONTIAC PRODUCTION IN NOVEMBER OF 1982. THE ADJUSTER WILL BE INSTALLED IN THE PONTIAC A 6000 STE ONLY... THE ADJUSTER HAS TWO (2)RELEASE LEVERS,, ONE THE FRONT VERTICAL (ITEM 7, FIGURE 1) AND THE OTHER FOR THE HORIZONTAL ADJUSTMENT (ITEM 15, FIGURE 1), AND A KNOB ATTACHED TO A DRIVE SHAFT FOR THE REAR VERTICLE ADJUSTMENTS. (*SEE BULLETIN FOR DETAIL AND ILLUSTRATIONS *)
SECOND BULLETIN REPORTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED CONCERNING THE REAR VERTICAL JACKSCREW RETAINING PIN DISENGAGING FROM THE REAR VERTICAL JACKSCREW TUBE. THIS CONDITION ELIMINATES REAR VERTICAL ADJUSTMENT. IF THIS CONDITION IS ENCOUNTERED, REPLACE UPPER PLATE PORTION OF SEAT ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY WITH PASSENGER ASSMEBLY (20460932) OR DRIVER'S ASSEMBLY (20460933). A PRODUCTION CHANGE WAS INCORPORATED ON MARCH 1, 1983. THIS CHANGE CONSISTED OF THE ADDITION OF TWO (2) ADDITIONAL PLASTIC WASHERS AND THREE (3) PUSHNUT FASTENERS. EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT (CHUCKING) HAS ALSO BEEN ENCOUNTERED ON SUBJECT STYLE (45-45) SEATS WITH SIX-WAY MANUAL SEAT ADJUSTERS. THIS CONDITION WAS CORRECTED IN PRODUCTION BY CHANGES TO THE SEAT ADJUSTER UPPER PLATE ASSEMBLY (DESCRIBED ABOVE), SEAT BACK LOCK SUPPORT ASSEMBLY AND THE SEAT BACK RECLINER ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (DESCRIBED BELOW). NEW ACTUATOR ASSEMBLIES (20457798-9) WERE RELEASED WITH IMPROVED SUPPORT TO ACTUATOR RIVETING PROCEDURE. EXISTING SEAT BACK LOCK SUPPORT ASSEMBLIES (20362302-3) WERE REVISED BY THE ADDITION OF A TAPERED INTERFERENCE BUSHING.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
