QUARTER TRIM GAP TO BACK GLASS -REAR DEFROSTER WIRE EXPOSED

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990 TORONADO

Some early 1990 Toronado models may experience a condition where the vertical rear window defroster wire being exposed. This condition may be caused by a large gap at the quarter trim panel to the backglass and quarter metal.

To address this condition, use the following procedures:

1. Cut a strip of black vinyl material 35 cm long and 5 cm wide,

Trim the vinyl strip to follow the contour of the quarter panel and rear package shelf as shown and identify left and right pieces.

2. Tape the rearward interior area of the strip that will be exposed when installed using 3/4 masking tape and spray on 3M trim adhesive 8090 or equivalent. The adhesive used must withstand temperature conditions up to 107.8 C (225 degrees F.)

3. Remove the tape prior to the adhesive becoming tacky. After the adhesive has become tacky, position the vinyl strip to the back side of the quarter panel as shown in Figure 1.

NOTE: - The use of super glue types of adhesives is not recommended. These adhesives can ruin the trim panel if inadvertently applied to the appearance side of the panel.

4. Remove the coat hook from the quarter trim panel.

5. Pull the panel outward at the rear glass area and slide the vinyl strip into position on each side.

6. Reinstall coat hook and tighten.

If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition.
