UNSTABLE CLIMATE CONTROL AND/OR TEMPERATURE DRIFT

MODELS/YEARS 1990 TORONADO

Some 1990 Oldsmobile Toronados may exhibit A/C heater control instability or temperature drift. This condition may be caused by a loose, kinked, or disconnected aspirator hose.

To diagnose this condition operate the climate control at "high blower" speed with the right A/C outlet door in the off position. Test aspirator draw by placing a small piece of tissue over the Oldsmobile script located above the glove box. If the tissue does not remain in place, insufficient aspirator operation may be suspected. Refer to the repair procedure below.

If the aspirator is functioning properly, refer to the 1990 Trofeo/Toronado Service Manual, section 1C "Climate Control System Check" for additional diagnosis.

To repair this condition:

1. Remove the glove box (4-7mm torx head screws at hinges). Inspect the aspirator hose for kinks and pinch points which may cause an air flow obstruction. Refer to the illustration on the back of this bulletin.

2. If the aspirator hose is loose or disconnected at the in-car sensor, use the following procedure:

A. Remove in-car sensor (2-7mm screws).

B. Firmly connect the hose to the in-car sensor by pushing hose on to sensor duct while turning the sensor in a clockwise direction one complete turn.

C. Reinstall in-car sensor, glove box, and align glove box door as required.
