RADIO DISTORTION AT HIGH VOLUME FROM DOOR SPEAKERS

Some 1990 Toronados built prior to VIN LU311224, with non-Bose radio (option code UW6), may experience distortion from the door speakers at a high volume setting. This may be caused by the vibrations inherent to the plastic water deflector covering the back of the door speaker enclosure.

To repair this condition remove the door trim pad, remove the speaker, and cut out the formed indentation from the deflector sheet. Refer to the illustration below. The removal of the water deflector from behind the speaker will not affect the performance or durability of the speaker.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
