Initial production of the 1988 Touring Sedan used a wiring harness with the #80 key warning circuit to the warning chime module. This circuit is also part of the Y65 Reminder Option and therefore results in both modules emitting a chime warning.
The double chime will sound whenever the driver's door is opened with the key in the ignition lock and may be objectionable to the owner.
The condition may be repaired by cutting the light green wire (#80 Circuit) at the chime module connector cavity Cl. Refer to Figure 1. This connector is located above the left sound absorber between the steering column and the ashtray housing. Tape the cut wire back to prevent a short to ground.
Recheck the key warning chime operation and reinstall all parts removed.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
