1988 TORONADO
All 1988 Toronados have a new BCM PROM calibration that keeps track of engine oil life. Engine oil life is displayed through engine data as the `Oil Life Index' and through the `Change Oil' menage. The `Oil Life Index' displayed through engine data is followed by a number between 0 and 100. The number displayed represents the percentage of oil life remaining based on driving conditions and mileage driven since the last time the oil life indication was reset.
When the oil life index reaches 0, the `Change Oil' message will appear, indicating that the oil should be changed. After the oil change has been performed, this message may be reset by pressing the ENG DATA and GAGES buttons on the Instrument Panel Cluster simultaneously for several seconds, during which time the `Oil Life Reset' menage will be displayed.
This will reset the `Oil Life Index' and the `Change Oil' message will remain off until the next oil change is necessary.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
