Some 1991 DeVilles and Fleetwoods prior to VIN 223063 may experience an open maxi fuse #2, 30 amp, in the left-hand under hood fuse block. This may cause ABS code 45 to set.
Circuit 1077, tan wire, may chafe against the ELC compressor bracket and short to ground causing maxi fuse to blow. This may also result in an open ELC motor ground wire as current from fuse #2 shorts to ground through the ELC motor ground path.
Repair circuit 1077 if shorted to ground where the wire exits the conduit at the ELC compressor bracket. Inspect the other wires in the conduit with circuit 1077 for chafing and possible shorts. Inspect the ELC compressor ground wire for damage. Reinsert all wires back into the conduit near the ELC compressor bracket. Tape the conduit, at the end so that wires cannot escape and so that there are no wires chaffing on the ELC bracket.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
