SUBJECT: CONSOLE CUP HOLDER OR ASHTRAY LATCH PIN FOLLOWER BREAKAGE INSTALL NEW LATCH

MODELS/YEARS: 1991 NINETY-EIGHT TOURING SEDAN

A condition where the console mounted ashtray or cup holder will not latch may be encountered on the 1991 Ninety-Eight Touring Sedan due to a broken latch.

To correct this condition, a new latch (P/N 12519354) has been released, and is currently available from GMSPO.

The following procedure should be used to replace this latch:

1. Remove the fuse for the console wiring. 2. Remove the console compartment. 3. Remove the console center section. 4. Remove the latch pin by lifting latch arm to remove the round pin from the mounting hole. Tum the latch to remove the latch pin end from the console center section. 5. Reverse above procedure to install.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
