Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step will test the if the sunroof will slide to the open position. If it opens, then inspect the limit switch LS2 for a stuck switch causing an intermittent short to ground.

  2. Testing for a short to ground in the LS2 limit switch circuit or a stuck limit switch closed.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Power Sunroof?

Operate the power sunroof to the open position.

Does the system operate normally?

--

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  2. Press the sunroof switch in order to raise the sunroof glass to the full vent position.
  3. Press and hold the rear portion of the sunroof switch until the sunroof glass stops.

Did the sunroof glass stop at the closed position?

Measure the voltage between the limit switch LS2 circuit at the sunroof module harness connector and a good ground.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

5 V

Go to Step 11

  1. Disconnect the connector to the position encoder system (PES) module limit switches.
  2. Measure the voltage between the limit switch LS2 circuit and a good ground.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

5 V

Go to Step 10

Test the limit switch LS2 circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Press the sunroof switch in order to slide the sunroof glass to a position between vent and closed.
  2. Measure the reference voltage between the limit switch LS3 circuit and a good ground.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

5 V

  1. Disconnect the connector at the position encoder system (PES) module limit switches.
  2. Measure the reference voltage between the limit switch LS3 circuit and a good ground.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

5 V

Test the limit switch LS3 circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the PES module. Refer to Sunroof Position Encoding System Switch Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
