J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

Removal Procedure

    Notice: When removing body panels, apply tape to corners of panel and adjacent surfaces to help prevent paint damage.

  1. Apply tape to the corners of the hood and the adjacent surfaces.
  2. Remove the headlight assemblies. Refer to Headlamp Assembly or Headlamp Bulb and/or Cornering, Sidemarker, Park, Turn Signal Bulb Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  3. Raise and support the front of the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  5. Remove the screws which secure the front fender liner to the front bumper fascia.

  7. Remove the bolts which secure the front bumper fascia to the front fender.

  8. Object Number: 364793  Size: SH
  9. Remove the bolts which secure the front bumper fascia to the radiator air baffle.

  10. Object Number: 739501  Size: SH
  11. Remove the front bumper fascia screws from the lower support of the front bumper fascia.

  12. Object Number: 364782  Size: SH
  13. Remove the bolt from the upper support of the front bumper fascia.

  14. Object Number: 364785  Size: SH
  15. Use J 38778 in order to remove the push-in retainers which secure the front bumper fascia to the upper support.

  16. Object Number: 364775  Size: SH
  17. Remove the front bumper fascia from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the front bumper fascia to the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 364785  Size: SH
  3. Install the push-in retainers which secure the front bumper fascia to the upper support.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the front bumper fascia screws to the lower support of the front bumper fascia.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  7. Install the front bumper fascia to front fender bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  9. Install the front bumper fascia to radiator air baffle bolts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  11. Install the front bumper fascia to front fender liner screws.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  13. Install the headlight assemblies. Refer to Headlamp Assembly or Headlamp Bulb and/or Cornering, Sidemarker, Park, Turn Signal Bulb Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  14. Install the front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Remove any protective tape applied during the removal procedure.
