Did you review the Radio/Audio System description and operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn the radio on.
  2. Verify that the speaker distortion is present.

Does the system operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Adjust the radio volume to a low listening level.

Is the audio distortion present in all speakers?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

Test for a short to ground on the right rear low level audio signal (-) circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 6

Test for a short to battery voltage on the suspect low level audio signal circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 8

  1. Inspect for poor connections at all of the audio components and the speakers. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. If a poor connection is not found, service the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .

  1. Inspect for poor connections at all of the audio components and the speakers. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. If a poor connection is not found, service the suspect speaker. Refer to Radio Front Speaker Replacement or Radio Front Side Door Speaker Replacement or Radio Rear Speaker Replacement .
